We offer a PhD in Economics (jointly with IUSS, Pavia, IT), which enrolls 7 students every year for a period of 4 years, and a PhD in Management, which enrolls 5 students every year for a period of 3 years. Both doctoral programs have been classified as “innovative” by ANVUR. Each doctoral thesis results in at least two international publications on SCOPUS/ISI journals, and the placement of our graduates is outstanding (e.g., Paris I Sorbonne, The New School for Social Research NYC, University of Maastricht, Universidad de Buenos Aires, London School of Economics, Harvard Business School, University of Oxford, Banca Centrale Europea, OECD, UBS, Inter-American Development Bank, Manchester Business School, Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, Lancaster University Business School, University College of London, European Commission). Notably, in May 2017 we granted our first PhD in Economics Honoris Causa to Prof. Joseph E. Stiglitz, Nobel price in Economics in 2001 and in November 2018 we granted a PhD in Economics Honoris Causa to Mario Draghi, president of the European Central Bank. In 2017-18, we also started offering a new PhD in Data Science , which enrolls 9 students every year for a period of 3 years. This doctoral program is a consortium with the Scuola Normale Superiore, the University of Pisa, CNR and the IMT of Lucca. It has been classified asboth "innovative" and "interdisciplinary" by ANVUR, and it is part of an effort to increase interdisciplinary research through a focus on statistical and computational methods, and projects based on big data.
EMbeDS currently supports three scholarships, one in each of the three PhD programs.
